In the sports world, if the Yankees don't define the word dynasty, then nothing does. There have been other teams that were successful. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Lakers, they've all had success. But a dynasty? Please. The closest any other team has come to a dynasty is the hated Boston Celtics. The Celtics have won 17 NBA championships. Sounds impressive until you consider the Los Angeles Lakers have won 16. The Yankees dominate everyone in baseball. They don't split anything with anyone. The Yankees have won 27 World Series titles. The next closest club has won 10. That same second place club has only won the World Series twice in the last 40 years.

For over 100 years, the Yankees have averaged winning the World Series once every 3.8 years, and on average, they go to the World Series every 2.6 years. So, once every three years, the Yankees are in the World Series. Two out of every three trips to the World Series, the Yankees win. THAT is a dynasty.
