After finding the CPS, this is as easy as it looks.

  1. First a CPS is needed. For my car, a 2002 CLK 430, I show it's part number to be 0031532828. I show that part as being for the following vehicles:
    1999 - 2000 C230
    2002 - 2007 C230
    2001 - 2005 C240 & C320
    2005 - 2006 C55
    2000 - 2002 CLK430
    2003 - 2006 CLK320, CLK500, & CLK55
    2006 CLS500, & CLS55
    2003 - 2005 E320 & E500
    2005 - 2006 E320 CDI
    2004 - 2006 E55
    2002 - 2005 G500 & G55
    1998 - 2003 ML320 & ML430
    2002 - 2006 ML350
    2002 - 2007 ML500
    2000 - 2002 ML55
    2007 R500,
    2001 - 2006 S600
    2000 - 2006 SL500
    2004 - 2007 SL600
    2003 - 2007 SL55
    2005 - 2007 SL65
    2001 - 2004 SLK320 & SLK32
    2007 S600 & S65

The correct part number can be confirmed with a dealer's parts department. I show the part as having a list price of $119, or $95.20 with an MBCA discount. The bolt that hopefully won't be lost is part number 910142006001. It has a list price of $1.

  2. Next, tools are needed. A socket screwdriver, ratchet, an extension or three, and a size 8 TORX socket.

  3. After the engine has cooled, open the hood and remove the air cleaner/engine cover.

  4. Is the TORX socket magnetized? If not, a little bearing grease in the socket will prevent the bolt from falling out.

  5. Remove TORX bolt, remove the CPS, and unplug the wire.

  6. Slide the new CPS in.

  7. Apply some blue Loctite to the CPS bolt threads and screw it back in.

  8. Attach the CPS wire, reinstall the air cleaner, and this job is done.
