Changing the fuel pump on a W208 CLK.

  1. The pump is in the rear of the car, just in front of the passenger side axle. See photo #1.

  2. The rear of the car needs to be elevated.

  3. Disconnect the battery.

  4. Remove the fuel pump cover. The fuel pump cover is removed by unscrewing three nuts. The nuts are accessed through the holes by the black arrows in photo #2.

  5. Remove electrical connection in photo #3.

  6. Clamp the fuel lines so as to spill as little gas as possible. Remove the fuel lines from the pump.
Note: Some pumps have three fuel lines.

  7. Loosen the fuel pump clamp in photo #4.

  8. Remove fuel pump by sliding it in the direction of the electrical connector.

  9. There is a plastic sleeve between the clamp and the fuel pump. It is the blue piece in photos 3 and 4. Check the sleeve for damage. If damaged, replace it. The plastic sleeve must overlap on both sides of the bracket. This is done to keep the fuel pump from coming in direct contact with the bracket. If the pump is allowed to touch the bracket, it may be corroded.

To install a pump, just reverse the installation sequence. You will need new hose clamps

This is an overview of what's covered in the WIS. As such, these instructions are for entertainment value only. I do not recommend placing cars on ramps, crawling under cars, disconnecting fuel lines, or replacing fuel pumps. I also do not guarantee the accuracy of these instructions or pictures and highly recommend that everyone use the services of a qualified mechanic to perform ALL MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS, & VEHICLE SERVICE.
